Hilda’s House
As an initiative of Ipswich Hospice Care, Hilda’s House, has been named after the late Dr. Hilda des Arts who was a highly regarded psychologist and advocate for ‘life long’ learning. Hilda’s House provides support to people who are facing the end of their life, their loved ones and for people who are bereaved.
Our team of experienced practitioners and trained volunteers provide practical, emotional and spiritual support for individuals and families in the local community as well as providing practice development opportunities to other professionals.
Our Services
- Individual support
- One-to-one support for people who are bereaved and would prefer face-to-face or telephone support.
- Trauma Support
- Gatherings facilitated by a qualified trauma counsellor, for families and community groups who have experienced trauma.
- Kids Grief Group
- A seven-week program for children between 7 and 12 years who are bereaved and want a safe environment to express and understand their feelings of grief while meeting other children in similar situations.
- Parents and Carers Support Group
- A seven-week program for people supporting children through grief and who are interested in understand more about the way children grieve. The program aims to draw and build on the existing skills and knowledge of the group.
- Young People’s Grief Group
- For young people between 13 and 17 years who are bereaved and interested in coming together to share stories of their loss and its effects, while focusing on the skills and knowledge that has assisted them through their grief.
- Adult Grief Group
- A seven week program for adults who are bereaved and would like to get together with others in a facilitated group, to share stories of loss and hope and gain insight into their feelings. The focus of the group is on sharing stories and resources.
- Drop-In Group
- A fortnightly meeting for people who are bereaved and are interested in connecting with others in a similar situation over a cuppa in a safe, warm and uplifting atmosphere.
- Palliative Care Counselling
- Individual and family counselling for people who are facing the end of their life and their loved ones.
- Home Care Respite
- Respite for carers assisting a loved one who is facing the end of their life. Support can be provided for up to 4 hours per week to enable carers an opportunity to leave the home.
- Practice Development Opportunities
- Both customised and general training, supervision and mentoring opportunities are available to professionals wishing to develop their skills in the area of counselling and grief and loss support.
For your information
All bereavement and palliative care support services at Hilda’s House are available free of charge.
We also provide referrals to on-site private Psychologists, who charge a fee for their service but are registered with Medicare’s mental health rebate scheme.
For the purpose of continuity of care and statistical analysis, client information will be collected and records maintained within the service. This documentation will be managed in a safe and confidential manner in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
While our bereavement and palliative care support services are offered free of charge, your donation will allow us to continue our work in the community.
Donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible.
